Roger is a highly experienced, pragmatic advocate who enjoys the intensity of the courtroom.

Areas of Expertise

Roger has more than 30 years’ experience of personal injury litigation, including fatal accident claims.

Employers’ liability: Roger has experience of claims in many and varied contexts: construction, mine & quarries, transport, factories, education, refuse collection, vehicle maintenance, security, police, armed forces, catering and the hospitality sector, the offshore oil and gas sector, hospitals, offices, shops, manual handling, work at height and many other contexts. He has been involved in many workplace stress cases including settling the pleadings for the successful claimant in Barber v Somerset CC [2004] UKHL 13.

Public liability: as with employer’s liability, Roger has extensive experience of public liability claims arising in varied contexts. He has particular experience of defending claims in the hospitality and licensed trade.

Highway, transport and road traffic accident claims: Roger is responsible for editing the highways and transport chapter of Charlesworth and Percy on Negligence. He has been involved in countless road traffic accident cases. He also has considerable experience of highway cases, carriage by sea and carriage by air. For several years Roger wrote a regular road traffic update for Solicitors Journal.

Roger also has considerable experience of other aspects of personal injury litigation including: injury from animals, nuisance, product liability, housing disrepair and dangerous premises.

Roger has many years’ experience of cases arising out of assault and abuse in many different contexts such as: children’s homes, custodial establishments, residential and clinical settings, workplaces and sport.

He also has experience of wrongful arrest and false imprisonment cases.

Roger has been involved in litigation in every aspect of industrial disease including: asbestos claims; respiratory disease from diverse exposures; renal disease from exposure to silica dust; lead poisoning, exposure to heat; asthma from various antigens such as flour, dust, fumes and spray paint; noise causing acoustic shock and NIHL; vibratory tools; repetitive strain, environmental exposure to fungal spores; carbon monoxide exposure; chemical exposure and COSHH claims.

 

 

Roger has been involved in many cases involving clinical negligence relating to diverse areas of medical practice.
