Personal Injury & Fatal Accidents

Parklane Plowden has the largest group of specialist Personal Injury barristers of any other chambers in the North of the UK. Our barristers have a long established reputation as being able to offer strength and in-depth expertise across a full range of practice areas.

Personal Injury Awards 2013

The team comprises 56 specialist barristers ranging from silks to junior counsel. As a result, appropriately qualified and experienced barristers are available to handle all levels of work. Members of the team regularly appear in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

The team are members of numerous associations such as PIBA, BNBA, AvMA and APIL.

All members of the group act for both claimants and defendants in relatively equal proportions. In addition to acting for most leading insurers, the MOD, local authorities, the NHSLA and trade unions, members act for individual claimants in all types of cases, however funded.

Several members are on the Treasury Solicitor's panel

We have a dedicated team of barristers who regularly advise and appear in health and safety prosecutions dealing with inquests, criminal proceedings and associated litigation. A number of the team are members of the HSLA.

The team has extensive experience in the following areas:-

  • Catastrophic injuries
  • Fatal accidents
  • Clinical negligence
  • Industrial disease litigation
  • HSE prosecutions
  • Product liability and drug related litigation
  • Group litigation
  • Inquests
  • Sport injury
  • Motor Insurance Fraud - including staged and induced accidents, phantom passenger claims, serious and organised insurance fraud.
  • Employers' liability and public liability claims - including fictitous claims, fraudulent exaggeration.
  • Credit Hire Claims - enforceability issues.

Fees can be discussed prior to the commencement of work. Value for money is assured as fees for each case can be assessed individually and are based upon the complexity and value of the case, seniority of counsel and time spent in preparation. All barristers will consider undertaking work on a CFA basis. A robust management system ensures that agreed turnaround times are fulfilled.

Testimonials

  • As the leading personal injury set in the North East, Parklane Plowden regularly represents claimants and defendants in complex, catastrophic and high-value claims. It has an exceptionally deep bench and a broad raft of experience among its barristers, making it a favourite set for regional and national law firms as well as insurers, trade unions and self-insured companies. Client Service: "The clerks give you results nor problems. They understand the difficulties in managing a catastrophic injury case load." "They bend over backwards; if they can do anything to facilitate the case then they'll do it. "The "absolutely brilliant" practice director Michael Stubbs leads the clerking team.

  • Parklane Plowden's personal injury and clinical negligence team is among the largest on circuit, and rated as 'extremely user friendly'. It handles a broad spectrum of work, including cases involving industrial disease, allegations of fraud and catastrophic injury, the latter of which is a particular growth area. Members are also recognised for their expertise in inquests where they represent individuals such as headteachers and army personnel. In 2013, Andrew Axon represented a tetraplegic individual who sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident, which was settled for a multimillion-pound sum.
