Free of Charge
3 CPD Hours (Accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority)

Thursday 10th April 2014
09:00 - 13:00
St James' Park, Newcastle

Robert Sherman (Barrister and Mediator), Jeff Fowler (Independent Social Worker), and (subject to availability) a consultant psychiatrist present a free, half day seminar examining the implications of the recent landmark decision by the Supreme Court regarding deprivation of liberty.

Is this seminar for me?

The work all professionals and practitioners in any area touching healthcare, social care, clinical negligence, acquired brain injury and family is likely to be impacted by the Supreme Court's decision in a way that can only be described as revolutionary.

The costs implications do not bear thinking about; but we must be alive to the challenges we face. We will need multiple increases in terms of the training and employing appropriate professionals; additional time to carry out assessments and attend multi-disciplinary meetings; resources including social, medical and legal to render lawful the many thousands, some even say many hundreds of thousands, currently being deprived of their liberty as a result of a legal and cultural ethos that is not fit for purpose.

We will also need to use the court system with all the additional resources of time and legal costs (mainly from public funds) to render the deprivations of liberty lawful until a fit for purpose system can be developed.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please click "book seminar" below to reserve your place. Joining instructions will be emailed to all delegates on Monday 7th April.

Chambers Cycle Day

Saturday 20th July 2013

from 10am

We would be delighted if you could attend our first chambers bike day. We will meet at 10.00am at a venue to be confirmed (probably a pub in either the Ilkley or Harewood area) followed by a 2-3 hour ride. There will be a road bike group and a mountain bike group. The two groups will meet back at the pub for a well deserved lunch.

Please email hylton.armstrong@parklaneplowden.co.uk or tom.nossiter@parklaneplowden.co.uk to confirm your place.
