Harriet is a specialist family finance practitioner accepting instructions across the full breath of financial remedies, including applications under Schedule 1 Children Act 1989, and TLATA 1996 claims arising on the relationship breakdown of cohabitants. She completed her pupillage with Parklane Plowden under the supervision of Elizabeth Darlington and Julia Nelson.
Harriet has a particular interest in cases where beneficial ownership and/or liquidity of jointly owned assets are in issue such as those involving trusts, family-owned businesses and farming/‘quasi’ farming cases where the family home is comprised within larger mixed domestic/commercial land. Harriet’s experience with TLATA claims also places her in an ideal position to advise and act in relation to the costs risks following interim applications, such as those under s.37 MCA 1989 or for MPS/LSPO.
Prior to taking tenancy Harriet worked as a College Supervisor at the University of Cambridge teaching students on both the Equity and Land Law modules. Harriet draws on this experience in her practice giving her particular expertise in financial remedy applications which involve third party assets. She is often instructed on behalf of Interveners both at an early stage providing advice as to whether, and if so when, to intervene as well as throughout proceedings.
Harriet was also privileged to act as Judicial Assistant to Mr Justice Cohen and Mrs Justice Knowles, gaining a breadth of experience in complex and high net worth financial remedies work including pre and post-nuptial agreements, MFPA 1984 Pt III applications and the non-disclosure of assets. During her time at the High Court Harriet assisted in reviewing applications for permission to appeal, experience she draws upon when instructed to advise on prospects.
Harriet prides herself on producing written work of the highest quality, being ever conscious that it is the first impression the court will form of clients. She is frequently instructed to advise in writing prior to issuing proceedings as well as to draft particulars in TLATA claims and points of claim/defence in financial remedy applications.
Harriet is currently President of the Harrogate and North Yorkshire Junior Lawyers Division and thoroughly enjoys meeting and working with other young legal professionals (less than 7y PQE) across the region.

Harriet accepts instructions across the full range of family finances, including financial remedy proceedings, Schedule 1, Children Act 1989 applications and TLATA work.
Harriet is experienced in all stages of financial remedy proceedings, including medium and high value asset cases, and TLATA claims. She has particular experience of cases raising issues of:
- Disputed ownership of third party assets including acting on behalf of Interveners in relation to issues of common intention constructive trust, resulting trust and proprietary estoppel trusts as a substantial income source (including Thomas v Thomas and ‘quasi’ Thomas arguments)
- Family businesses including issues as to valuation and liquidity
- Mixed use property of shared ownership – often involving family-owned farming land or land of mixed commercial and domestic use incorporating the family home
- Post separation accrual
- Non matrimonial assets
- Pensions
- Pre and post nuptial agreements
- Interim applications including applications for set aside, MPS, further disclosure and joinder of third parties
- Costs applications
Harriet accepts instructions in private child matters and has a broad range of experience both advising and representing clients in such cases.
