Jessica Ashcroft (Pupil)
About
During her first six under the supervision of Anna Datta and Gareth Price, Jessica has gained experience across a broad range of civil and employment work.
Inquests
Jessica has observed and assisted in Article 2 inquests and pre‑inquest reviews. She is keen to develop her practice in this area, with a particular focus on matters involving public bodies.
Clinical Negligence
Jessica has drafted complex pleadings, detailed schedules of loss, and substantive advices across a range of clinical negligence matters, including amputations, cardiac issues, and ophthalmological and orthopaedic injuries. She also prepares advices for Infant Approval Hearings.
Personal Injury
Jessica has spent a significant part of her first six shadowing junior members of chambers across small claims, fast track, and multi‑track trials. She has drafted pleadings and opinions in matters involving road traffic accidents, occupiers’ liability, and alleged breaches of health and safety regulations.
Employment
Under the supervision of Gareth Price, Jessica has attended a wide range of preliminary and final hearings in the Employment Tribunal, including claims concerning whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, discrimination, and reasonable adjustments. She has prepared chronologies, advices and lists of issues across numerous matters, and has also attended the Employment Appeal Tribunal with Andrew Sugarman.
Before commencing pupillage, Jessica served for five and a half years as a response police officer. This frontline experience has given her first‑hand insight into the practical challenges faced by public bodies such as local authorities, the prison service, mental health and social services, and the NHS. She therefore has a particular interest in actions involving such bodies.
Jessica has also enjoyed exploring issues of liability further through the clinical negligence work she has undertaken during her first six and is keen to develop this area of her practice.
Jessica holds a First-Class Honours degree in History from the University of Durham. She completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Law at BPP University, followed by the Bar Course at Northumbria University with Distinction. Her academic achievements were recognised through several awards, including the Excellence and Career Commitment Scholarship from BPP, the Bar Course Scholarship from Northumbria University, and the Exhibition Award from the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
