Mike Stubbs

Parklane Plowden Chambers are deeply saddened to announce that our Director of Clerking Mike Stubbs passed away on the 2 February 2024.

James Murphy, Head of Chambers, pays this tribute to him on behalf of all his colleagues in Chambers:

"Mike Stubbs was loved and admired by all at Parklane Plowden Chambers. He was steadfast in his promotion of Chambers, playing a key role in our growth and success for almost 20 years. Ever ready with a new idea or strategy to enhance our collective offering to clients, his unstinting enthusiasm for Parklane Plowden and his role was inspiring. Mike encouraged and guided members of chambers and staff colleagues into and along their careers. He was generous with his time and knowledge, always seeking the best for everyone. Most of all, he was kind.

Those of us who worked closely with Mike often wondered how many of him there were. His energy and enthusiasm meant he could appear to be representing Chambers at a charity event, whilst simultaneously seeming to be liaising with an important client in an entirely different city. He was not just well-known and highly regarded within the legal industry, but widely respected and well-liked.

Mike approached his lengthy illness with typical stoicism, resilience and determination. He tackled the challenges brought by each stage of the disease with a steadfast resolve to resume all his activities as quickly as possible, and managed to do so repeatedly. His characteristic optimism and humour always shone through.

Mike was first and foremost a devoted family man. Mike’s bedrock was doubtless Janey and the boys, Oliver and Thomas. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, brother and sister and close friends especially at his “happy place” in Spain.

Our heartfelt condolences to Janey, Thomas and Oliver at this saddest of times."

Mike was a fierce supporter of EGFR Positive UK and asked that any tribute donations be directed in support of the lung cancer charity here.

We will share details of how his life will be celebrated in due course.
