Parklane Plowden Chambers Celebrate Pro Bono Commitment at North East Summit
11 November 2025

Parklane Plowden Chambers was delighted to be involved in this year’s North East Pro Bono Committee Summit hosted by Norton Rose Fullbright in Newcastle as part of National Pro Bono Week. The event brought together stakeholders from across the pro bono sector, including Not Beyond Redemption, a charity dedicated to supporting the family rights of incarcerated mothers; Save the Children UK, who have been leading the charge on children’s rights within the UK Covid-19 Inquiry; and LawWorks, the solicitor’s pro bono group.

Avaia Williams of Chambers spoke at the Summit about the ‘win-win’ aspect of pro bono work, highlighting how meaningful engagement in pro bono matters, particularly at a junior level, can support both personal and professional development. He reflected on the opportunities provided by engaging in pro bono work, from exposure to more complex cases and the development of key professional relationships, all while delivering vital support for those otherwise unable to access support.

It was also a pleasure to see His Honour Judge Freedman, Designated Civil Judge for Newcastle Upon Tyne, Honorary President of the Committee and former Head of Parklane Plowden Chambers, host the event for the fourth consecutive year and to hear inspiring contributions from pro bono figures across the region.

Parklane Plowden Chambers remains firmly committed to advancing pro bono initiatives across the North Eastern Circuit. Under the leadership of our Pro Bono Champions, Leila Benyounes and Emma Frazer, who sit on the NE Pro Bono Committee – Chambers actively coordinates opportunities for engagement, with members consistently contributing their expertise across a diverse range of practice areas.

Chambers is delighted that Avaia Williams has accepted an invitation to join the NE Pro Bono Committee.
