Gemma regularly represents Local Authorities, parents and children in care and adoption proceedings.
Gemma has extensive experience of lengthy contested hearings and finding of fact hearings. She is frequently instructed in matters involving sexual abuse, non- accidental injury, fabricated illness, domestic violence, emotional harm, and neglect.
Gemma has a particular interest in public law matters involving an international element. In recent times, a significant proportion of her caseload has had an Eastern European dimension. Such cases frequently involve complex issues of assessment overseas, liaising with foreign authorities, applications for transfer of jurisdiction pursuant to Article 15 BIIR, placement of children abroad and issues of promoting cultural identity.
She is also frequently instructed to deal with contested applications for leave to oppose the making of adoption orders.
Gemma’s practice further includes the whole range of private law children applications including internal relocation and removal from the jurisdiction.
