Hylton Armstrong helps secure multi-million pound settlement in catastrophic amputation claim

Parklane Plowden Barrister Hylton Armstrong, led by Stuart McKechnie KC, has helped secure a substantial settlement of about £4.3m for a claimant represented by Rachel Sharp of Ramsdens Solicitors following a catastrophic personal injury.
The claimant sustained life-changing injuries in a serious accident at work which resulted in an above-knee amputation. Liability was admitted by the defendant at an early stage, enabling the parties to focus on the Claimant’s rehabilitation and the valuation of the claim.
The claim involved extensive rehabilitation and the coordination of a large multidisciplinary team. Expert evidence was obtained from a wide range of specialists, including experts in lower limb orthopaedics, rehabilitation medicine, prosthetics, psychology, care, and accommodation.
Following investigation and negotiation, the claim settled for a substantial sum, securing the resources needed to support the claimant’s future independence, rehabilitation, and quality of life.
This was a complex and challenging claim involving devastating injuries and significant future needs. The settlement achieved will provide the claimant with long-term security and access to the rehabilitation, accommodation, care, and prosthetic support required in the years ahead.
Credit should go to Rachel Sharp and her team at Ramsdens Solicitors for the work undertaken throughout the claim, and to Stuart McKechnie KC for his strategic guidance and expertise.
