Motor Insurance and Employer’s Liability Fraud

A leading member of the Chambers Civil Fraud Team. Frequently involved in fast track and multi track cases across the country where a fraudulent claim is alleged or suspected. These include staged and induced accident claims, bogus passenger claims, exaggerated claims and fraud rings. Corin has a keen interest in evidential and tactical issues in these cases and works closely with solicitors and insurers to develop methods for identifying and exposing fraud rings. Corin is fully conversant with the intricacies of defending these cases and the latest developments of the law in this field.

Corin’s recent/current caseload includes: representing Local Authorities/Utilities in the North East of England who defend a series of bogus public liability claims; and representing Motor Insurers who defend claims emanating from fraud rings in London and Birmingham. 

Credit Hire

Corin has represented Motor Insurers defending claims for credit hire since 1995.  He has an eye for detail in these cases and extensive knowledge of the wide ranging legal issues which frequently arise.

Severe Injury

Corin has considerable experience in cases of head injury and spinal injury in particular. Also regularly involved in cases where pain conditions are diagnosed or suspected. He is sensitive to tactical and evidential issues, especially those concerning care, Court of Protection and rehabilitation.

 

Employer’s liability

Extensive experience in all aspects of employer’s liability litigation. Regularly instructed in “six pack” cases for Claimants and Defendants. Reported cases include Threlfall v Hull City Council [2010] EWCA Civ 1147 (leading authority for “suitability” of PPE). Considerable experience in cases of assault (representing nurses and carers working in hospitals and the community).

 

Fatal claims

Represents Claimants and Defendants in claims arising from fatal injury.

 

Disease

Advises in HAVS, NIHL and RSI related injuries. Corin has a particular interest in causation, apportionment and limitation issues in these areas of law.

Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals

Corin has represented victims of crimes of violence since the beginning of his practice. Consequently he is experienced in cases administered under the old and new procedural Rules. Now concentrates on cases where Applicants have suffered serious criminal injury (head injuries in particular).

 

Recent/Current Cases
  • Representing Defendant. Claim intimated for Claimant's loss of a chance of securing a commission in the RAF. Claim continues.

  • Representing a child injuried in a RTA abroad. Child suffered orthopaedic injuries and head injury. Claim continues.

  • January 2015. Represented an injured Police Officer. Career shortened by orthopaedic injuries and Pain Condition. Claim settled at Joint Settlement Meeting.

  • December 2014. Represented Ambulance Technician who suffered injuries in two seperate accidents at work. Claim successful at trial.

  • November 2014. Represented injured boat builder. Suffered serious orthopaedic injuries after legs crushed by bulk head. Settled at Joint Settlement Meeting.

  • October 2014. Represented Local Authority where claim made under the Occupier's Liability Act for digital amputation. Claim dismissed after two day trial.

  • September 2014. Represented Local Authority where claim made for Road Traffic Accident alleged to be due to nuts/bolts/washers left on the carriageway. Claim dismissed after three day trial.
