Sophie acts for both Claimants and Respondents and accepts instructions to advise, undertake drafting and attend preliminary and final hearings.

She has experience in the following areas:

• Unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal.
• Discrimination, including disability and age discrimination. Sophie has particular experience of gender reassignment discrimination.
• Whistleblowing detriment and automatic unfair dismissal, including assisting Andrew Sugarman in delivering seminars on the topic.
• Victimisation.
• Unlawful deductions from wages.
• Breach of contract.
• Settlement agreements.

Sophie also has an understanding of running employment cases from a solicitor’s perspective, having assisted in drafting witness statements in a number cases and advised on disclosure.

Sophie is the editor of the Parklane Plowden Employment Newsletter.

Sophie acts on behalf of Claimants and Defendants. She has experience of conference with medical experts, drafting pleadings, advising on liability and quantum, CCMCs and inquests in a clinical negligence context.

Recent cases have dealt with:

• Delayed diagnosis.
• Nursing and residential care.
• Unsatisfactory results from cosmetic surgery.

Sophie is instructed on behalf of Claimants and Defendants to advise in writing and in conference, draft pleadings and appear in hearings at all stages of litigation including frequently at trial.

She deals with both Fast Track and Multi Track cases and regularly acts on behalf of local authorities.

Sophie has experience in the following areas:

• Employers’ liability, including assaults at work.
• Public liability, including highways, occupiers’ liability and defective premises claims.
• Road traffic accidents, including low-velocity impact and claims against the MIB.
• Product liability.
• Accidents abroad.
• Noise-induced hearing loss.
• QOCS and fundamental dishonesty.
• Procedural issues relating to 'portal' and 'ex-portal' claims.

In 2017, Sophie was seconded to the personal injury team at Stewarts Law for a month. She was involved with a number of multi-million-pound catastrophic injury claims concerning brain and spinal injuries. She assisted in drafting Schedules of Loss and witness statements.

Sophie acts almost exclusively for Defendant insurers, whilst retaining an unusual insight into credit hire from the Claimant perspective, having worked as a credit hire paralegal at Lyons Davidson in the Claimfast team before pupillage.

In addition to the usual issues, she has experience of:

• High-value hire claims within the 'portal' and associated procedural issues.
